Inflatable seals
Likon inflatable seals are manufactured under tight quality controls to assure conformance to specifications and product uniformity.
Likon inflatable homogeneous elastomeric seals show a high modulus of elasticity and considerable tensile strength. These non reinforced seals are designed to be fitted into grooves and are restricted to low pressures to prevent bursting.

Another method of manufacturing is moulding. Moulded inflatable seals can be fibre reinforced for extra pressure resitance and durability. Please see below.

Likon inflatable seals are spliced. This means both extruded sections and joints are made of the same rubber material. Our seals will therefor expand and retract homogenously through thermic cycles. Opposite to glued seals the homogenous construction minimizes the risk of leaks to an absolute maximum.

Inflatable elastomeric seals are used in all kinds of industries where their unique properties are used to overcome sealing problems, to simplify designs and to assure save environments:

powder & bulk solids handling

Hoppers / Big Bag Systems
Inflatable seals on the mouth of the hopper valve of metering devices expand radially down to form a leak-tight seal around the fill opening in a transfert cart.The inflatable seals on the filler spout expand radiallly outward to effect a dust-tight seal against the inside of the bag neck during filling.

Slide Gate Valves
Inflatable seals provide the tightest seal possible for controlling the flow of very fine materials. The valve seal does not inflate until the blade is firmly in position, the seal than inflates, creating a leak-free seal. The inflatable seal deflates before the blade opens again.

Butterfly Valves
Inflatable seals are ideal for butterfly valves in tightsealing applications. The clearance between the deflated seal allows for torque rotation of the disk and eliminates the damaging effect of abrasion of the seal. When the disk is fully closed, the seal inflates inward against its edge to effect a leak-free condition.

Inflatable seals with pre-moulded corners effect leak-tight seals for hinged or sliding covers on accesways and other openings in mixers and other powder and bulk solids processing equipment.

Inflatable bladders are used to clamp doctor blades of varying thickness in their holders, and to apply uniform pressure along the blade length in inkers, coaters, and other critical doctor blade applications.

Expandable gripping bladders are easily installed in robot hands. Round, rectangular or linear bladders grip flat interior or exterior surfaces. Circular bladders grip cylindical I.D. or O.D. surfaces. Minimal moving parts mean easy maintenance.

Meatpacking Smokehouse Door Seals
Inflatable seals mounted on doors to expand radially out and make a smoke-tight seal against doorframes. For houses operating under normal conditions, EPDM rubber is used. For applications requiring extra high temperatures, we offer silicone rubber, and, if there are unusually high concentrations of animal fats, nitrile ruber is used.

Wineries : Lid seals for Variable Capacity Tanks
For wineries using variable capacity fermentation tanks, inflatable seals are important to ensure airtight lids during the delicate fermentation process

Air locks, Reactor head gaskets, Gate seals, Reactor cavity seals
or maximum leak-tightness and reliability, gates are generaly supplied with double inflatable seals of fully moulded construction (rather than extruded construction). Fabric reinforcement is also incorporated for additional structural integrity and better resistance to rupture and wear. When required, flexible ´J´ seals can be supplied in lieu of inflatables. Gates can be of either hinged or liftout design.

Although called inflatable seal these products can be used for varies applications. Not only do they seal, they're also used for handling.


LIKON inflatable homogeneous elastomeric seals are used for sealing in all sorts of applications. The shape allows for different ways of expansion. Please contact us for technical assistance and available solutions.

Working pressure normally is between 0.7 to 2.1 Bar. Some inflatable (reinforced) seals can be designed for pressures of 7 Bar and more.

Note: The smaller the expansion of the inflatable seal per cycle, the longer it will last.

LIKON inflatable homogeneous elastomeric seals show a high modulus of elasticity and considerable tensile strength. The seals are designed to be fitted into grooves and are restricted to low pressures to prevent bursting. The expansion is determined by the way the seals is shaped and mounted.

Extruded sections can be shaped during vulcanizing. This allows the manufacturing of relatively cheap inflatable seals for applications where mounting radii are very smal. This shaping also prevents a wrong mounting of seal.

Homogenous inflatable seals (non reinforced)

Reinforced inflatable seals

In applications where high sealing pressure is needed, or where safety measures are at the highest level, moulded reinforced inflatable seals are suggested.

Because of their construction, these reinforced seals have the least weak spots, namely only where the valve is placed. The fibres bring extra tear resistance and prevent the rubber to overexpand.
